Beef and Sausage Chili

Everyone had there own version of chili, this is our family s, its a combination of ground beef and italian sausage with lots of vegetables slow simmered in a crockpot for a hearty slightly spicy full flavored chili without beans. We serve it in bowls with add ins on the side, such as cheddar cheese, green onions, jalapenos, chopped tomatoes and sour creamleftovers are great on a baked potato or pasta..

  1. 1 pound ground beef
  2. 1 pound hot or sweet italian sausage or a combination casings removed
  3. 2 medium onions chopped
  4. 3 celery stalks chopped
  5. 2 jalapeno peppers chopped
  6. 1/2 carrot chopped
  7. 6 garlic cloves chopped
  8. 1 green bell pepper chopped
  9. 1 can (15 oz) fire roasted tomatos drained reserve liquid
  10. 1 can (28 ounce) crushed tomatoes drained reserve liquid
  11. 1/2 cup ketcup
  12. 4 tablespoons chili powder
  13. 1/4 cup dry white wine
  14. 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  15. 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  16. 1/2 teaspoon pepper and salt to taste
  17. 1 teaspoon or more to taste of hot sauce such as franks brand
  19. 1/4 cup freshly grated romano cheese
  20. 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  1. Change In a large skillet brown beef snd sausage and remove to a 2 to 4 quart crockpot

  3. Change Add all chopped vegetables and soften to skillet meat was cooked in about 5 minutes
  4. Change Add wine and reserved tomato liquid and simmer and reduce until almost gone add to crockpot with meat

  7. Change Add all remaining ingredients except romano cheese and parsley to crockpot and cover and cook on low 8 hours
  8. Change Strain out all excess fat and discard Add cheese and parsley stir in
  9. Change Serve in bowls garnish with shredded cheddar cheese shredded lettece sour cream chopped tomatos and chopped jalapenos Bread is also great for dipping
