Beef Rice Bowl – Gyudon

Japanese comfort food at it’s finest, this easy beef dish is popular and filling! Thinly sliced beef simmered in a sweet, umami rich sauce, you can even top it off with some shichimi togarashi for some added heat!

  1. 1/2 pound beef
  2. 1 white onion
  3. 1 clove garlic
  4. 1 tablespoon oil
  5. 2 teaspoons sugar
  6. 2 tablespoons sake
  7. 2 tablespoons mirin
  8. 2 tablespoons dashi stock
  9. 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  10. 2 eggs
  11. 2 cups cooked rice
  12. 1 green onion
  13. pickled ginger
  1. Change Cut the onions and beef into thin slices
  2. Change Heat the oil in wide skillet over medium high heat Add the onions and garlic and cook until the onions are tender about 5 minutes
  3. Change Add the beef cook until browned
  4. Change Add the sugar sake mirin dashi and soy sauce Reduce heat to low and simmer until most of the liquid is gone
  5. Change Scramble the eggs in a small bowl Add the egg to the pan Cook for a few minutes until the egg is just cooked
  6. Change Place the beef and egg on top of steamed rice and pour desired amount of sauce Top with pickled red ginger and green onion
