Cheesy Whole Masoor dal Soup

#SoupSalad – A healthy and a nutritious soup of whole masoor dal (red lentil) with cheese for some extra flavour. It can be had as it is or with some croutons / bread sticks for a wholesome meal. I wanted to deviate from the normal soup, so added a little bit of sambar powder and curry leaves. The taste was simply delicious.

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cup whole masoor dal soaked for an hour
  2. 1 onion chopped
  3. 2 garlic chopped
  4. 1 sprig curry leaves
  5. 2 tsp cheese
  6. 1 tbsp olive oil / butter
  7. to taste salt
  8. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  9. 1/2 tsp sambar powder
  10. 1/2 tsp pepper powder
  11. 1 tbsp lime juice

Method

  1. Heat oil and saute the onion garlic and curry leaves till translucent Add the turmeric powder salt pepper powder and sambar powder and turn off the flame Saute for a few seconds
  2. Add the dal and 2 cups water and pressure cook for 4-5 whistlesWhen cool add the cheese and blend into a puree Heat through and serve with a dash of lime juice
