French Onion Soup – Indian Fusion Style

#SoupSalad – Onion Soup is a very popular and a signature French Soup. It is a simple, delicious and a hearty one-pot meal. But today I gave a twist to it and made it in an Indian fusion style, complete with our very own traditional spices like coriander powder, garam masala powder, etc. Serve, garnished with fried onions, cheese, coriander leaves and bread croutons for an amazing light dinner. Please check for a step by step method with pictures to prepare it.


  1. 3 large onions sliced
  2. 3-4 garlic cloves chopped
  3. to taste salt
  4. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  5. 1 tsp roasted coriander-cumin powder
  6. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  7. 1/2 tsp pepper powder or to taste
  8. 2-3 tbsp roasted oats
  9. 1 chicken / vegetable cube
  10. 1 tsp oil
  11. 1 tsp butter
  12. 1-2 tbsp fried onions
  13. 1-2 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
  14. 1-2 tbsp grated cheese
  15. few bread croutons


  1. Change Heat oil and butter in a pan and saute the garlic first till light brown Add the onion and continue to fry till light golden in colour
  2. Change Now add all the dry powdered spices and mix well Switch off the flame
  3. Change Add the oats chicken / vegetable cube and 3-4 cups water
  4. Change Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles When it cools down blend it amp heat through
  5. Change Serve garnished with coriander leaves fried onion cheese amp bread croutons
