Homemade Bread Crumbs

I always seem to throw bread away because I never use it up, so now I take the bread and make my own breadcrumbs. (Ps. I still take a few slices and feed the birdies that come around our house.)

  1. 1 left over bread (any kind) I used a 1/2 loaf of french bread and slices of rye bread
  2. 1 fresh herbs (1 med sprig rosemary couple sprigs thyme 6 large leaves of basil)chopped fine
  3. 1 tbsp garlic powder
  4. 1 tsp garlic salt (or regular salt)
  5. 1 tbsp dried italian seasoning
  6. 1/2 cup parmesan cheese

  1. Heat oven to 300°F
  2. If using loaf bread slice it open lengthwise Take bread place single layer on large baking sheet Sprinkle fresh herbs over bread and bake for about 45 minutes (You want the bread to be dry through out)
  3. Let bread completely cool down then break into smaller pieces and throw in food processor and chop till fine(do in small batches)
  4. Put bread crumbs in large ziplock bag and add italian seasoning garlic powder salt and parmesan cheese Shake bag good to incorporate everything good
  5. I store mine in the refrigerator
  6. To make plain breadcrumbs do not add seasonings to bread crumbs
