Nana' s Meatloaf

This recipe belonged to my nana. Things have been added things over the years. I m a huge believer in using fresh ingredients. I feel for a meatloaf it make a big difference. Traditionally, I serve over egg noodles.

  1. 1 large egg or two small
  2. 3 clove fresh minced garlic
  3. 1/2 cup Shredded Parmesan cheese
  4. 2 1/2 tsp Tyme oregano Can use an Italian mix
  5. 2 1/2 tsp seasoning salt of course less can be used
  6. 1/2 medium chopped onion
  7. 2 tbsp ketchup (optional)
  8. 2 medium Sized hot Italian sausage or 3/4 cup of ground remove skin if using tube sausage
  9. 1 small Tomato
  10. 1 large Jar of your favorite tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce
  11. 3/4 cup bread crumbs If looking for gluten free or low carb you may omit this step entirely
  12. 2 lb lean ground beef or turkey i use extra lean so there #39 s no extra fat

  1. Begin by allowing meat to sit out for a little so its not so uncomfortably cold to handle Be sure not to let it sit out for too long as this is not good Just enough to be comfortable to handle extra cold raw meat can cause discomfort to the person mixing it by hand so often times this process is rushed and the ingredients are not mixed properly
  2. This can be cooked in both the crock pot and oven If cooking in oven be sure to cover lightly with foil Allow to vent Preheat oven to 375 and cook for 40mins If using crock pot method cook on low for 3-4 hours
  3. In a large mixing bowl add sausage and blend well with beef shape meat into a crater Add egg and mix well Shape back into crater
  4. Chop fresh garlic onion tomato and ketchup place into crater
  5. Sprinkle seasoning salt and fresh herbs or Italian seasoning
  6. Add bread crumbs amp Parmesan cheese
  7. Blend thoroughly
  8. Pour sauce on bottom of baking dish or crock pot If baking cover loosely with foil to allow venting Otherwise place in crock pot set on low for 3-4 hours
