Soda Bread

It s a fantastic versatile bread which is quick and easy to make. You can also add flavours like grated cheese or olives or sundried tomatoes


  1. 500 grams white flour
  2. 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  3. 1 tsp salt
  4. 400 ml buttermilk


  1. Preheat oven to Gas Mark 6 | 200C
  2. Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl
  3. Mix the buttermilk into the dry ingredients to make a sticky dough
  4. Turn mixture out onto a lightly floured surface and form a ball Dont knead it
  5. Place ball onto a baking tray with baking parchment on it and press down slightly to flatten it
  6. Mark it into quarters cutting deep but not all the way through
  7. Dust with flour
  8. Bake for 30 mins or until golden brown and when tapped on base it should sound hollow
  9. Leave it to cool on wire rack
